Support

We support you while you deal with our money worries, for as long as you need our help.

Campaign

We also campaign on your behalf to reduce the risk of problem debt and the harm it causes.

Step 1

The hardest step is always the first step in the journey - but we're with you every step of the way!

  • You can have a face to face meeting or a telephone or facetime meeting. We have friendly comfortable rooms at two venues in Collyhurst
  • At our first meeting we will get to know you and understand your circumstances a little better.
  • We will have a look at your income and make sure you're claiming everything you're entitled to.
  • We will look at other options you may have to bring additional income into your household.
  • We'll talk to you about your situation and any emergency issues you may be facing such as court action, threatening letters or bailiff visits
  • If you're happy we will ask you to sign a form to say we can represent you.
  • We will look at the debts you are aware of and request your credit file so we can see any others that you may have forgotten about.
  • We will look at your debts and sort into priority and non-priority. We will deal with priority debts first because they can have the biggest consequences if they are not delt with.
  • From them on, we deal with your creditors. We will contact them and get them to give you some breathing space while we help you decide the best option for you.
  • This will take us about an hour, and we may ask you to get any paperwork you have together for our next meeting.

Step 2

In our next meeting we will look at your income and expenditure.

  • If we think there is a way to increase your income, we will explain what we need to do and how long it may take.
  • We will then have a look at all your expenditure, if we think you can save money, we will talk about it together.
  • This will help us create a Standard Financial Statement (SFS). This is a detailed breakdown of your financial circumstances that we will send to your creditors, so they are aware of your current position.
  • We will then talk to you about all the options open to you to deal with your debts.
  • You don't have to make a decision there and then; you can go away with the information and have a think about it.
  • We will send you a letter confirming everything we have talked about.

Step 3

By now, we've got a good idea of what options are open to you and we will have had a discussion about which option you think is best for you.

  • We will discuss all the pro's and cons of the option you like the best and the other options you could choose from.
  • Once you have decided on the option, we will discuss any costs associated with it. Gateway M40 don't make any charges but depending on the option there may be charges to pay.
  • If you can't afford them, we can help with applications to Trust Funds who may help.

Step 4

We've now taken the action to resolve or manage your debts.

  • We will send you a letter to confirm the outcome of the advice process and the reasons why you reached the decision you've chosen.
  • We will ask you a few questions to see how you found our service and if you would recommend us to others.
  • We will then close your case, but you can contact us at anytime for further support and advice.
